American Relay Releases Corn & Oil

Denver will be getting down to its roots on Saturday, June 23, with dirty-blues rockers American Relay at the Three Kings Tavern for the release of their moonshine-soaked album, “Corn and Oil.” The show starts at 10 p.m. with southern sweetheart Arum Rae and Denver blues man Possessed by Paul James warming up the stage and Eric Matelski doing some of his signature live art for what promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime show.

“We just wanted to revive a roots movement and get people shakin,” says frontman Nick Sullivan who, along with drummer Alex Hebert, recorded “Corn and Oil” during the Christmas blizzard of 2006 at Colorado’s newest 1st Class recording studio, Summit Road Studios. The songs were born of cabin fever and just scream to break free. Tracks like Shake Yo’ Money Maker and Homeland Blues are a listener’s license to forget pretension and break loose to down home, blues-roots rock and roll.

What the critic says:

"...a two-man tsunami of distorted Delta blues, '60s British R&B and lead-footed garage rock that's not afraid to bow down before Led Zeppelin."
- Westword, Denver

Imagine a whiskey-fueled bar brawl between the late R.L. Burnside, Hank III and Deadboy & the Elephantmen's Dax Riggs and you'll see American Relay somewhere in there, throwing forceful punches but also holding up those who came before them with thankful admiration." - Denver Post

So if you’ve got the spirit just shaking to break free, don’t miss the CD release party of the summer, American Relay on Saturday, June 23, at Three Kings Tavern, 60 S. Broadway, at 10 p.m. with a $5 cover.
